What to expect from a class

A Kundalini Yoga class will always start with the Adi Mantra, Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo. Recited three to five times, this powerful mantra atunes us to our higher selves, the "inner teacher" and aligns us with the lineage of teachers sometimes referred to as the "Golden Chain". The mantra provides a tangible opportunity to focus our hearts and minds on our Yoga practice, leaving behind (at least temporarily!) the concerns of the day. This mantra is often referred to as "tuning in".

Once you have warmed up a little, you will be guided through a set of exercises, known as a Kriya. There are many different Kriyas, all with a different focus and effect. The Kriya's will combine a variety of dynamic postures, mantra and breathing techniques. Exercises can sometimes be challenging but will always provide you with an opportunity to safely step into unknown territory, physically, mentally and emotionally.

A long relaxation is integral to the class structure and is followed by the final part of the class where you will be guided through some powerful meditation techniques.

Classes will end with a traditional affirmation and will finish with another mantra, Sat Nam, meaning Truth is my name.

What to wear and what to bring

Ideally, you should wear loose, comfortable clothing to enable you to move around without too much restriction.  You will also need a mat or a blanket to practise on, something to keep you warm during the relaxation and some water. Try not to eat a heavy meal in the two hours before the class.
